Pretty Pretty Please Photoshoot

General Vibes

  • Outfit Coordination
    • Either matching or existing in the same colorspace
      • Sort it out before we get off

  • Colorful Props
    • Everything provided there will be a stark, single color so…
    • Any depth/complexity will have to come from what is brought
      • Colorful Blankets
      • Retro Tech/Other objects
      • Glass Soda Bottles
        • Label removed, possibly replace liquid

  • Plants/Flowers
    • Not to be center of attention, more of a background/edges usecase

Posing

  • Top Level Concept: Slightly Awkward, Very Adorable, dash of Kpop
    • I expect to be scolded by both of you, but Dream Pop always sounds a little like Kpop to me (as someone who listens to Kpop occasionally)
      • So I took some posing inspiration from Kpop

  • Strange Stances

  • Closeness
    • Slightly closer than your comfort zone allows

  • “But Ryan, there are hundreds of people in a Kpop Bands and only 2 of us!”

Framing

  • Comes down to 2 main vibes:
    • Wide Angle, wide depth of field, members separated on Z coordinate
    • Long lens, tight framing, both on the same Z coordinate

  • Both options allow the two of you to fill the frame, giving you a real presence

  • Too many wide shots with a lot of empty space would draw a lot of attention to the fact there are just 2 of you
    • For video – this is actually a good thing, because what a sound they can make with just 2 people
    • For photo – no sound to be impressed by how few are contributing, so the band just appears small

Stylization

  • Long Exposure
    • Two different ways to achieve interesting shots:
      • Moving the People
      • Moving the Camera
    • Need to keep still for a decent portion of the shot to make the subject legible.
    • 1/5 of the frame time should be spent moving
      • Can be at beginning, middle, or end of shot

  • Vaseline
    • Using vaseline on a lens protector produces similar results to the 2nd and 3rd image above.
    • “Soft Focus” and smeared details
      • Was used in old Hollywood for female stars’ closeups, was often in their contract because it made them look better
    • Creates a very dreamlike quality – fits with the music’s vibe

Matched Shots

  • You both wear the same outfit
  • ?????
  • Profit
  • A mirrored strange pose in matching outfits
  • Several photos of each of you individually could be composited into a very self-centered crowd

Reminder: Choose Outfits before we get off
